AeBC Agenda

I am happy of re-start to work in this personal project called “AeBC Agenda”. I am working to get new release of AeBC Agenda - Contact Manger. Now I’ve paid to get own domain server, www.aebcagenda.com in order to do more easy to user remember to users the web page and avoid third part advertisement. I’ve put some advertsment (of google adsense) in order to get some money to help me to continue working in this free project.

Next, I’ll put the content of web page. In the moment the release is not ready yet, but I working hard to get the application ready to download. Regarding to new features of this release is a that AeBC Agenda in this version will be available in English language to let to spread the application to different countries and will have available in several web site like as CNET Download.com and Softonic.com.

New features:

• Select your preferred language. Currently available in English and Spanish.
• Search is performed to all fields, not only for name and phone numbers.
• A improved user interface for new users using a Wizard to avoid confusing dialog boxes.
• Birthday reminder of contacts.
• Notifier new versions.
• Simplified registration form for new users.
• Installation process improved in order to do it more easy.
• Other improvements and bug fixes.

Previous features:

• Advanced search algorithm.
• Searches while you type the first letters.
• Save all your contacts in one place.
• Export contacts to web pages (html) and plain text file (txt).
• Dial directly contacts by connecting your phone line to the computer.
• Print contacts information directly.
• Fast call buttons for faster access to contacts more used.
• Open e-mail client or web browser directly doing click over mail or web page link in contacts.
• Copy to clipboard all contact information.

K550 and gmail, all in one

Today I’ve been dealing with my mobile phone Sony Ericsson K550 (by Movistar Chile) to get my gmail mail account working, after an hour I had success
Well, I’ll show you the steps that I carried out…

• Go to Messaging ->Email -> Settings -> New Account.
• Account Name: Anytext that help you indentify your account. In my case, I put “brange”.
• Email Alert: Message Alert 1.
• Connect Using: WAP MOVISTAR
• Email Address: my_user_name@gmail.com
• Connection Type: IMAP4
• Incomming Server: imap.gmail.com
• Username: my_user_name@gmail.com
• Password: ********* (My password)
• Outgoing Server: smtp.gmail.com
• Advanced Setting:

Your Name: Alvaro Brange

Signature: Enviado desde un teléfono móvil. (I have in Spanish this message)

Download S&R: Up to size limit

Check Interval: 4 h

Push email: Off

Allow connection: Home Network

Copy Outgoing: Off

Encriptation: Incomming Server: SSL, Outgoing Server: TLS

If you have some issues when try to send mail from your phone, maybe is because you need install a certificate. You have 2 choice.

• Download it directly from you mobile. I did it. Go to Internet and enter a address: http://www.verisign.com/cgi-bin/support/rootcert/getrootcert.cer
• Download the file in your PC and then, transfer it to your phone and install/open it.

Download to HPLIP applications from HP Linux Imaging and printing web site, clicking in “Download the Automatic Installer”
After, execute installer running in console (into folder that you have the file)

sh hplip-2.8.5.run

Follow the instructions…

I selected automatic installation mode.

I confirmed my Linux distributions

I entered my root password and so on….

To finish, the application will launch a Windows form..

HP-Setup

1. Select “USB..”
2. Select you printer in the list show in “Select from Discovered Devices”
3. Select recommended option in “Select/Confirm PPD File”
4. and add details in “Enter Printer Information” such as pictured below. If see disable “Next” button, you should delete all field in form and add information again. I spent lot of time thinking what is the wrong field because, until you edit the field this will not show in red.

Ready.

After a lot of attempts (edit files, up and down volume controls) I could enable sound in Ubuntu. To do this, I made the next:

1. Re-install alsa-utils. I think that this is not necessary.
2. Open volumen controls. (Alsa Mixer)
3. Preferences, and check “Channel Mode”. This will visible a TAB “Options”, here you must select “6ch” and ready.

To test your surround system, you can write into Console:

speaker-test -Dplug:surround51 -c6 -l1 -twav
and this will allow listen a voice for every speaker.

Before technical issues, a little introduction to thesis.

Currently, in Concepción, Chile, exist a geodesic observatory, called TIGO which has like target jointly contribute to the realization and updates to the global geodetic reference systems (ICRF: celestial reference frame; ITRS: Terrestrial Reference Frame), which today constitute the basis for determining position by means of navigation systems assisted by satellites.

Into TIGO there a Superconductor -Gravimeter that allow to measure the gravity level, but the data aren’t being analyzed, and scientists have only the raw date from it. So, I pretend provide of a web application that allow analyze and store the raw data to get useful information :).

In the next lines, I’ll put some code lines and steps used to get web application running. Why write? I write because if have some problem with my configuration, Linux, etc, I’ll back here and repeat the steps .. in order to not deal with some strange issues again :).

First approach to accomplish with the application, I will use Django as Web Application Framework using Python programming language.

Let’s start…

In order to dive into Django, I begin reading The Django Book. It seems like a good book for user that wish learn it.

In chapter 2. Installation, we found this steps to install Django

• Install python (Ubuntu already has this installed)
• Install Django (Latest stable version)
• Install Python-Postgresql
• Install Postgresql (Python package in Synaptic)

postgresql (version 8.2.5-1.1) will be installed
postgresql-8.2 (version 8.2.5-1.1) will be installed
postgresql-client-8.2 (version 8.2.5-1.1) will be installed
postgresql-client-common (version 78) will be installed
postgresql-common (version 78) will be installed

• Install subversion client. Search (Subversion in Synaptic Package Manager)

libapr1 (version 1.2.7-8.2ubuntu1) will be installed
libaprutil1 (version 1.2.7+dfsg-2build1) will be installed
libsvn1 (version 1.4.4dfsg1-1ubuntu3) will be installed
subversion (version 1.4.4dfsg1-1ubuntu3) will be installed.

Already Installed Django, I decide remove it in order to use the current development version instead of last stable version. In oder to this.

• Get Super user account, using: sudo -s
• Delete Django directory, using: root@konunantulinux:/usr/lib/python2.5/site-packages# rm -rf django

Update source code of Django

For accomplish this task, we execute svn update into djtrunk directory

Django include a little server that allow test own web site without fight with Apache configuration. This task will be necessary with system is ready for Production.

To run web server, we write in Terminal:

If IP is not specified, only server will be stay listening in loopback, and web page will no available for be accessed from other machine.

Starting interactive python interpreter using our Settings.

To do this, we write inside own directory called mysite
python manage.py shell
